Inde Trip Dairies
Middle of the semester it was; no respite, assignments supposed to be finished till the end of spring break and some exams even. Sinking star of Hindu myths didn’t show any mercy nor would have the scorching heat of summers. Voila, the wedding ceremony of my sister was planned in the blooming springs of March me being summoned to Hindustan. The exhilarating climax of 2 weeks got over with a snap of fingers. Struck in a limbo, the kick of the semester brought me back.
The reel rewinds….
Packed with so much activity the trip set off the mark with the third night out (having spent 2 nights in travel already) with my friend Gogo munching original Indian cuisine from Bikaner after a long year.
Agreed boy that I had no muscle memory for bowling but still I anticipated tendons and ligaments to show some support at least. They betrayed me badly steering the whole bunch of balls in to gutter throwing Gogs in to rolls of laughter. The next flop show was a random sorry movie watch when we couldn’t get the tickets for Invictus taking our adrenaline to lowest levels boosted only by a boot of freshly brewed beer. The booz kicked in the anecdotist skills back in Gogs with him recounting each and every incident of Convo in great detail making me miss it more than ever. The flood gates were closed again only at 6 in the morning.
The fagged soul had no respite for the next four days due to incessant shopping for coming nuptial ceremonies. The fatigue of the day dissolved the jet lag so quick that I used to sleep like a baby in nights.
Different different yumm cuisines are still sitting at Nukkads (street corner) in Delhi .The outlook speaks of no renovation so forth but who cares when taste buds are happy go lucky.
Delhi is a hub of traditional wear with an immense pool to browse from. I picked Rajasthani, Bengali and Western wear but I pity them to have the fate of blooming once like a Star of Bethlehem and then sealed forever in the wardrobe.
It took 4 days to finish rather wind up as it happens to be a never ending hunt for the girls. The most hilarious part though was expending half of the time looking out for Parul’s JHUMKI (earrings).
The next few days started with the card distribution and believe me it was no easy deal when 1500 people are invited. I was wondering how we are going to manage really but then papa devised “Divide and Manage” making a troop of his friends’ sons to manage each and everything.
Small kids cry on the top of their larynx when they come at socials, so papa came up with an idea of KIDS CORNER to gratify the little ones making them feel at a gala rather.
The pack of six (friends) arrived to combat the chariots of the groom not to allow him just unleash our territory before accrediting us. (It’s an Indian tradition to cut the ribbon at the entrance and gift to sister and brother in laws ).
It was a perfect KODAK moment when the best man (me of course ihun ihun :)) escorted the bride under the shroud of fragrant roses with band beats making the moments in the ambiance. It felt like years just vaporized; the sibling I played around with was getting betrothed .And so the moment came when all the balloons kissed the sky and the garlands were exchanged. She became the wife of the man of her dreams.
The bride bade au revoir by throwing back the cereal (symbolizes wishing for prosperity back her parents home) .The awesome sense of humor of my cousin couldn’t let anyone tickle a drop of tear at the softest moment even when the hard hearted fathers cry like babies. And so the movie came to the climax ……..

Arizona Dairies

Trips are such a respite from the 9 to 6 monotonous company routine when you just put all work stress on back burner and chill out. I was jaunting to phoenix for a 3 day family trip to see my sister who is here for 3 weeks to visit her husband.
I was using METRO rail to reach airport for the first time in states which is supposedly very rare here; thanks to the oil and car companies bombarding rail networks and setting up road webs to spread their business in corporate US. So it’s just California, Georgia, New York or a few more who have some internal rail network but nothing similar to TGV in Europe exists across states with aviation left as the only option unless you want to spend days on a road trip.
For the first time I have left my laptop back at home since he companied me during sophomore year and rather decided to grab my pen instead to put down my thinkings. Part of the motivation was watching REMEMBER ME recently where Tyler goes very morning to a coffee shop to write a dairy to his dead brother about his what and where about .I could sense the soothing touch from it when you write your mind on a piece of paper and your thoughts take a graceful form. Now that I think of it, it is making more and more sense to pen down the travel dairies as memories are really lush green as you live them and you don’t fail to mention half of the things you experienced.
Left for Grand Canyons the next morning……..
Every place is peculiar when we view it from holistic perspective. Phoneix is sitting in the middle of cacti clad naked muddy mountains. These cacti are really fun looking trolls with hands protruding from literally anywhere. There are a just a few cities spread across Arizona and you travel like for hours till you reach from one to another not even seeing a fluttering bird for miles. It’s just the shining beacon of the sky making mirages and companying you all the way.
Rather than the curled up snake roads of the Himalayas making you puke out all the time, these mountains have straight gradually steep roads resembling like Aravallis of Rajasthan. The well developed road network makes the road trip such a fun with no hitches and jerks in the feel like airborne vehicle.
It was so endearing to see how the barren spirits of the desert gave away to the country side grass land kind of vegetation when the beautiful town of flagstaff came over. This city is designed with a European outlook to it with the same stony roads and restaurants serving outside on the streets.
Plateaus were nowhere visible for miles now and there were huge grass lands on both sides of the road and we felt like lost in middle of nowhere. The sign board to the Grand Canyon after miles was such a breather and so it became clear that we had already reached the pinnacles of Colorado plateau already and huge gorge canyons carved out by the Colorado was sitting below us shining in different shades of orange.
It was amazing to see how the canyons were being carved out with the forces of nature looking like a stack of plates on top of each other. I felt like a humungous old city came out of the earth’s womb. As I read on wiki that nearly two billion years of the Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channelsthrough layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau wasuplifted. I had never seen such a huge valley and the best part were both wind and river chipping the mountains in their own styles.
PS: Grand canyons have awesome appeal to save in the hard drive of brains. Nothing seems better than a road trip in Sonata humming songs and watching the sun setting on the horizon through the vast grasslands.
Take Home Message :Stone is the most mutable thing given sufficient time.

Parting blues Trilogy –III
GPS guided vehicle of angelic family gave me a ride me to Duval chateau. After stuffing myself with dal and paranthe, I drifted off in a long slumber. The following day commenced with the exotic Koreans where the cuisines with raw vegetables and tofu (fat less cheese) were brought to the fore and my poor rumbling stomach found it excruciatingly difficult to take it in .It was only after coke was served that I was able to finish it off.
This was followed by a drive to Baton Creek mall where seniors shopped for clothes and I took a place at the nook gazing hotties. It laid out quite an eye candy vista and temperature is inversely proportional to length of attire as foresaid by luca seemed quite relevant out here.
Everything here is oversized, huge stadiums, huge conveyance and huge stout people. It appears that they have same picks for foods too with huge pizzas and large beverage glasses .Immense blank spans give them the prospects for making malls with horizontal skylines as to vertical ones in India.
Jet lag conferred me a brief siesta after which we planned to play poker and invited some Indian junta at our place. You would be wondering if I know how to play, yeah I learned that day itself. It was a fun that I missed during last days of my Roorkee when all second floor junta was fully engrossed in to it day and night but then its good in other way that I didn’t get the worm of it as it would have deprived me of all the cycling trips and bakar sessions.
I strolled towards the campus in the night companied by a senior who showed me the civil lines of the Austin campus -Guadalupe lane where every eating joints of very kind of cuisine are available ranging from Mexican to Thai. Austin tower brought reminiscences of the ECE tower but unlike the ECE one which could never be used for any purpose other than unfurling banners in the fests, thanks to the army guys in the neighborhood; the Austin tower is home to many admin offices out here. American football stadium forms the tallest skyline among all concrete structures with a capacity of 80 K supposedly filled with deafening hoots and shouts when the season starts in October.
I was involved in clearing off the registration bars all the week with movie sessions and ice cream specials, movie nights and free pizzas seasoning the draggy routine. This week would be wounded up in adjusting in newly shifted apartment and settings all things up. I would be stuffed with the routine of classes and home works from next week onwards after this 3 month long hiatus. Again a long semester to endure.
PS: For non-roorkee junta -> civil lines is the only market just outside the college in our Roorkee.
PPS: Suggestions for the title of new post are welcome.

Parting blues Trilogy – II
Gate 1 carved out an inconspicuous veil between me and my family in a spur of moment. This one mo was severe to live on but then I had to move on (long queue guys: D), life goes on.
The surdi guy gave me a boarding pass to land on lands of amrikaland .After a couple of phone calls from the plane , I winged from dilli on the back of lufthansa . The good thing about travelling form orient to occident was that it remained day all throughout the journey as I hopped on the plane early morning. It felt like I was just browsing through live Google earth from the top. Sometimes, sea seemed to dominate the skyline for miles around in all directions and then patches of knobby mountains or buildings came up with a stunning backdrop to the scene. Just then on spur of the moment, the veil of clouds blanketed everything for a while. These successions rendered an interesting natural vista worth clicking photo shots to have a sojourn in this memory lane sometime later and remember the first jaunt to USA. Egyptians just made pyramids to uphold the human bodies unscathed but Joseph Nicéphore Niépce got a better idea to come up with camera to preserve human memories unscathed in all manifestations. Its only memories which dont loose vigour and tones even after million years .
Even small sour weirdo uttapams and bitter sambhar seemed like ambrosia when groovy German damsels waited on me and asked for drinks in a genteel style. A nice movie archive with latest collection provided another option to fritter away some time when clouds shrouded the scene outside. The halts in Frankfurt and DC made the journey irksome and hotties with short knickers just covering their derrieres was the only booster for the worn out jet lagged soul. Paid Wi-fi on airport ruled the option to while away the time browsing and chatting which paved the way to start the first post of trilogy.
Meeting an Indian family on the way paved the way for the missing jigsaw of my itinerary and I was offered a drive till my seniors place in a GPS activated car with a free dinner: D. Huge roads, no traffic congestion and intelligent cars make the drive much more idyllic. The best part here is that surroundings are kept as natural as they could be while carving out whole transportation infrastructure with all natural crest and troughs on the roads.
PS: Hope to complete the trilogy by next week.
PS2: surdi -> sardar I meant; got d slang from Austin Indian community :D
PS3: Amrikaland -> got d idea from Deutschland name.

Parting blues Trilogy - I
Things were going so chirpy perky for the last 2 months as anything one day, I was left pinching myself in disbelief that I had been leaving after a week.
So this whole affair of au revoir has fetched in grief and rendered my thorax dysfunctional for the whole week .Eventually I have flown and sitting down here beside the huge glass window basking in the sun rays of Frankurt dawn to blog down my experiences of parting.
It formally started off with my one day jaunt to alma mater which was kind of a fill in for earlier plan. Previous plan for R-Land cum Badrinath shrine got hay wired when all of a sudden the connecting bridge break danced in the torrential rains.
Embarked on the last journey to R-Land before leaving India, I started off with my cousin in the morning visiting the family goddess temple situated in the hearts of a village located on foothills of Shivalik ranges. A sense of serenity settled in watching the lush green fields basking in the sunshine and people involved in paddy planting. Unswayed by the gadarene city life, serenity prevailed everywhere with harum-scarum kids running tires with a stick in their hands. I always wonder if I had a home in village where I could come to spend my vacations. Eventually we reached the temple and somehow goddess prophesied an easy pass without holding us off in long queues which is kind of usual in Hindu shrines. We spent quality half an hour in the lawns of the temple and then headed towards R Land.
Déjeuner with luca nd C.RED pumped up energy in the exhausted spirits and we steered off towards R campus. There is something about going back to familiar lands and squeamishness. I felt like I have just returned from another vacation to the consecrated R Land for a new start again. I felt like going to S-31 and again settle down in my room with chirping elec mec junta on the floor. Same calls for bhupi soup magi layo, bhupi ek ban panga ,ek poha, parantha, it was like past flashing back and all reminiscences of long bakar sessions with smarty and casual visits to skinny’s room on the way to wee-weeing. Then I met my juniors and OT dude in nescii, the only eating joint of our campus. Then principessa companied me to our favorite (smarty’s especially) hangout of the last sem CCD and all memories of chapos and cricket matches came back. I longed for a breath of constancy in the gale of change.
Dance class also rendered a lot of memories to last for a life time. My instructors and friends arranged a surprise tea party and gave me farewell presents with extended photo sessions followed by a play shoot me acting as a victim of a rape from an 8 yr old culprit. It gave me reminiscence of my embarrassing ragging incident where I was supposed to act as a pregnant girl in front of the hostel warden and persuade him for room allotment in a hostel being unable to commute everyday .A blot on my character made it hell difficult to convince I being spoiling others and then shortage of rooms was another constraint. It turned out to be interesting being the whole senior group sitting in the garden and me acting with one of my batch mate turned warden.
Hence came the last day when my family including cousins companied to see me off at the airport, visiting my cousins living on the way and last photo clicks with them. A feeling of emptiness crept in w.hen I was entering the gate number 1 of IGI airport.
PS: Acknowledgements to principessa to come up with an idea of trilogy. Seemed appealing at the first place.

Exciting wiggle of my life
Here I am after along hiatus writing this post. When I wrote my last post I distinctly recollect somewhere in the back of my mind that I promised myself that I will keep penning down my experiences every calender week but life was like squirming all these past months as if it was under some spell or conjuration .I had sinusoidal mood swinging all the time and got first hand experience of how one’s frame of mind can change out and out within minutes sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse when I was like combating with Indian passport office and german embassy for my intern trip to germany. Finally I won the skirmish just one day before my going .
It has been pretty exciting this last months I’ve travelled a lot …, made my first trip to the Germany, seen palaces and evangelish cathedrals of dresden, seen the country side beauty of Waiswesser, seen enthralling match of ice hockey LIVE between berlin and waiswasser ,seen the reflections of blue glimmering with fireworks in the coursing Albe on silveaster, had gifts in my shoes (strange but lively tradition u know)from Santa claus at nicolas party, had a lot of puddings nd chocolate desserts in the menza ,had two beers wid 2 shots at christmas party( but unlike a tyro didnt feel drunk at all),seen augustus castles where he used to enamor girls , hanging on at parties till 4 in the morning, nd yaa cherished the rock for the first time ( crucial to mention for ardent pop buffs like me) nd how can i bury my most interesting experience here with out telling u guys....arranging a B'day party for my frd and cooking the indish cuisines.Sometimes I felt really unlike anish :-)
